PinkRayne gives us a gracious welcome to Yorkshire, let us spend a moment to read about Yorkshire’s historic journey.
Words of the builder/owner herself:
April 2015 – April 2016, The Yorkshire Moors
The Yorkshire Moors sim was where it all began. My Moors sim was perfect to me, with all my heart going into the build.
Building the Moors was therapy, it taught me so much about sim design in SL and provided clarity of mind during a cloudy RL period.
The Moors filled me with happiness. It was the first time I felt accomplished with my build, and the first time I was truly satisfied with my creation.
I was overwhelmed by the support my sim received, and by the stunning photographs that the talented artists of SL provided, I was so grateful for these perfect memories, but it was time for a new chapter.
Saying goodbye to my Yorkshire Moors sim was one of the hardest and saddest things I’ve had to do in my time here.
Rather than recreate it elsewhere, I chose to remember it exactly as it was and create something new.
May 2016 – April 17, The Yorkshire Dales
In May 2016, The Yorkshire Dales was born in SecondLife.
This sim was based on a tiny rural village in Yorkshire called Malhamdale. It’s a place close to my heart because it’s been a big part of my RL.
As a child, I would spend hours and hours with my family there, running through the grass, picking wildflowers, and dipping my toes in the streams of the idyllic Dales.
I remember eating picnics, making daisy chains, and feeling perfectly content with the world.
It was time to bring this beauty to SecondLife!
Malhamdale consists of a cove, tarn, and various waterfalls.
Malham Cove is a dramatic, curved limestone formation. It was formed at the end of the ice age, 12,000 years ago, by a waterfall carrying meltwater.
Above the cove is a unique limestone pavement, and this has been featured in the Harry Potter film ‘Deathly Hallows’.
Make sure to visit our tearoom to see the real pictures of this beautiful scenery, including a Harry Potter still!
April 2017 – December 2017, Yorkshire Dales
Almost a year on, it was time for a change.
The Yorkshire Dales sim never completely felt like ‘home’ to me, so I knew I had to make some changes.
There were bits I loved, bits I hated, and bits I’d got totally bored of.
Out of the original features, I kept the small village at the landing point (still exists today) because I just adore it, it reminds me so much of my favorite villages in Yorkshire.
Everything else was wiped clean and rebuilt. Yorkshire is such a vibrant and varied county.
We have beaches, dales, moors, quaint villages, and bustling towns, and with this build, I tried to include our meadows, woods, and waterfalls, but for some reason, it never felt ‘just right’, maybe I tried to fit in a little too much.
December 2017 – Today, Yorkshire
Here we are again 🙂
I got itchy feet and things didn’t feel right, and we know what that means… it was renovating time.
I felt I’d lost Yorkshire’s character somewhere down the line.
I’d got a little excited and rezzed far too many random things, gachas, buildings, and other none-Yorkshire items, and the sim felt kind of lost.
I wanted to bring back calm, minimal, vintage Yorkshire. I needed beautifully moody skies and endless moors, so I started the rebuild.
Real-life Yorkshire is also home to a steam railway that leads to a village called Haworth, home of the literary Bronte sisters, and the moors.
The railway opened in 1867 and still goes strong today thanks to the Worth Valley Preservation Society, so I wanted to represent this amazing railway on the sim.
Yorkshire sim is a love story that I wanted to share with you, I hope it shows the love, passion, and awe I have for this beautiful part of the world.
I invite you to walk in my shoes and feel the warmth of our rural villages, the soul-warming comfort of rustic fires, and homemade food.
The fulfillment of a simple life is yours for a little while, so let Yorkshire awaken your senses and ease your worries as you lose all track of time.
In July 2019 – Yorkshire Residential opens! A small selection of homes set in Yorkshire.

- plenty of information about the land, group, and stores easily available
- the train and the lake in front of the houses are perfect
- some extents of the simulation use towering grass, greatly reducing visibility
- the terrain is covered with alpha over alpha (grass patches) that can lead to rubberbanding lag
- the music was out of theme during my visits
- there could be a couple more scenes/spots between the train and the houses
