Microsoft recently confirmed that the Microsoft Defender Advanced Threat Protection (ATP) may stop working correctly after you install the cumulative update identified as KB4520062 for Windows 10 v1809.
ATP is Microsoft's enterprise-facing security platform designed to enable companies to quickly prevent, detect, and investigate threats in their environments. This platform combines security technologies built into Windows 10 with Microsoft's cloud computing platform to provide a complete enterprise security solution.
The problem does not affect Windows Defender antivirus in Windows 10
The update was released on October 15 to fix an issue that caused a black screen to appear during the first login after another update was installed. It also corrects an issue that affects the use of certain Bluetooth devices and one that causes a large increase in power usage on Windows 10 devices in Connected Standby mode.
Microsoft recognized the problemconfirming that the Microsoft Defender ATP service stops working after you install update KB4520062. An important detail is that the problem does not affect the Windows 10 Windows Defender antivirus.
Some Windows 10 users may see a message in the operating system Event Viewer referencing error 0xc0000409 related to the MsSense.exe executable.
The issue occurs on Windows 10 v1809, Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2019, Windows Server v1809, Windows Server 2019 and a definitive solution has not yet been made available.
The company recommends that users of the above mentioned systems avoid installing the KB4520062 update until the issue is fixed:
At this time, we suggest that devices with affected systems do not install the KB4520062 update. We are working on a solution and estimate that a fix will be available in November, "Microsoft said.
