Young activist Greta Thunberg's dramatic appeal has traveled the world and left a mark at the UN climate summit in New York Monday. But Trump saw something no one else saw.
"How dare you? You stole my dreams and childhood with your empty words," said the young environment defender in New York at the beginning of the Climate Action Summit, convened by the UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres.
"You dropped us. But the young people are beginning to understand your betrayal," Greta Thunberg told several heads of state. "If you have decided to drop us, I tell you: we will never forgive you. And we will not let you go away like that," added the young woman, tears in her eyes, visibly moved.
"She looks like a very happy girl, hoping for a bright and wonderful future. So beautiful to see," wrote the US president in his personal Twitter account.
The comment was accompanied by the video of Greta Thunberg's statements, in which the young woman gives an earful to world leaders. Seemingly thrilled in a somewhat exaggerated and perhaps theatrical style, she does not appear to be happy, much less hopeful in a better world, as the US president writes.
