CALGARY – Warrants were issued to three Calgarians and one Edmontonian after a one-year investigation into suspected vehicle cloning in Calgary.

According to Calgary Police Service authorities, an investigation into suspected criminal activity was launched in October 2018 at Auto Detailing Specialists, a company on block 300 of 36th Avenue NE, NE. At least four people were allegedly involved in car theft from car dealerships, changing vehicle identification numbers (VINs) and selling stolen vehicles with altered VINs.

The investigation revealed that vehicles were stolen from dealerships through purchases made with fraudulent identification and bank withdrawals or using vehicle keys that were protected during testing.

A search warrant was executed at Auto Detailing Specialists on January 26, 2019 and police seized six stolen vehicles and 119 grams of methamphetamine. The value of the seized vehicles was estimated at US $ 730,000.

Subsequent investigations led police to believe that the suspects stole or cloned a total of $ 1.73 million in vehicles and overturned the stolen vehicles for approximately $ 575,000 in cash.

"This is yet another example of how complex car theft investigations can be," said the CPS sergeant. Graeme Smiley. "These offenders took significant steps to prevent detection and disguise stolen vehicles, which resulted in an extensive amount of evidence requiring review."

Arrest warrants were issued for the following suspects on a total of 22 counts:

  • Sherwin Hadji-Latiph Mendoza, 38, by Edmonton

  • Kathleen Mare Jackson, 32, from Calgary

  • Jason Joseph Buckley, 46, from Calgary

  • Ashley Marie Myshrall, 33, from Calgary

Your collective charges include:

  • Possession of property obtained by crime

  • Possession of property obtained by crime for trafficking purposes

  • Fraud over $ 5,000

  • Issue a forged passport

  • How to pronounce a fake document

Police released photos of the accused. Anyone with information about your whereabouts is asked to contact the Calgary Police Service at 403-266-1234 or anonymous tips can be sent to Crime Corks.
