No room in the main national soccer competitions, since the Grupo Globo holds the rights to broadcast the Brazilian Championship and the Brazilian Cup, the streaming channels aim at state tournaments as an opportunity to enter this market.
The tournaments in Paraná, Santa Catarina and Mato Grosso do Sul will start in the coming days outside the pay-per-view system of the broadcaster, but with presence in different streaming platforms.
The Paranaense Championship will be the only one exclusively for DAZN and transmission of all matches. In Brazil since May 2019, the company will have to pay each of the 12 clubs R $ 370 thousand for the broadcasting rights.
Athletico and Coritiba, members of the elite of Brazilian championship, and Londrina and Paraná, in Series B, will receive the same amount that teams distant from the national scenario are entitled to. Until last week, the Athletico was reluctant before the proposal.
In recent years, negotiations between the club and Globo have been disturbed, and the team has even been left out of the broadcaster broadcasts in the state. In the Brazilian 2019, the athletes reached an agreement with Globo for broadcasting on open TV, but were left out of pay-per-view.
The solution adopted by DAZN, then, was to offer clubs the ability to display the games and the best moments on their own platforms for supporters by login and password.
So far, Athletico and Coritiba have announced that they will use this mechanism. Clubs may choose their own narrators, reporters, and commentators.
“People today are looking for what they want to watch, they are no longer impacted by what is going on in the communication channels,” says Vinícius Grein, Athletico's marketing director, who estimates an audience of 26,000 supporters in each match. of team.
DAZN also owns the Series C rights of the Brazilian Championship. While negotiating to get his first state, he lowered his monthly subscription price, from $ 37.90 to $ 19.90 from January this year. "The new price and the continuous investment in sports rights are part of the strategy to continue growing in the country", said the company in a note sent to Folha.
The Paranaense Championship starts this Saturday (18), with the duel between União and Athletico, at 16h.
In Santa Catarina and Mato Grosso do Sul, the state will start next Wednesday (22) and will broadcast Globo on TV, but not on pay-per-view, space occupied by streaming.
In Santa Catarina, Globo will show one match per round, while TV NSports will produce the other four for the site soccercatarinense.tv.
These duels will be marketed in pay-per-view format. The fan will have to pay up to R $ 99 in cash or divide into three installments – there were previous lots at lower prices – to have access to the games.
At the time of signing, the fan will indicate their team. TV NSports, founded in 2018, will pass a percentage of all subscriptions to the Santa Catarina Professional Football Clubs Association, which will break it down as follows: 50% for the fan-nominated team and 50% for others nine teams.
According to Cláudio Gomes, executive director of the association, this model earned R $ 1.3 million in 2019, the first year of this format. “Last year, the sale of 10,000 packages exceeded our expectations. For this year, we expect to reach 20 thousand packages, ”he said.
THE Globe has priority to choose the matches of the first phase of Santa Catarina and in the knockout. There is an agreement between the parties that both the broadcaster and TV NSports broadcast the finals.
“The model agreed was satisfactory for the parties involved,” said the station's communications officer. In the first round of Catarinense, Globo will televise the game between Chapecoense and Avaí to the state of Santa Catarina.
In Sul-Matogrossense, the inaugural match, between Águia Negra and Ponta Porã, will be broadcast by MyCujoo.
The Swiss-made platform also takes advantage of the loopholes left by Globo, which plans to televise only 8 games out of 45 in the first phase of the competition. MyCujoo does not charge subscriptions and claims to profit from advertising spaces.
