Iran announced on Friday it wanted to lower the contents of the black boxes of the missile-struck Ukrainian plane, which crashed in Tehran early on Wednesday and killed all 176 passengers.
US and Iraqi intelligence sources, as well as Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, said the plane was shot down by an Iranian missile, possibly by accident. Iran denies the accusations.
Iranian officials said it could take between one and two months to extract information from the plane's black box voice records and could ask for help from Russia, Canada, France or Ukraine.
"We prefer to download the contents of the black boxes in Iran. But if we see that we will not succeed because the boxes are damaged, then we will ask for help," said Iran Aviation Organization chief Ali Abedzadeh.
Tehran said the process could take between one and two years.
Iran has refused to hand over the black boxes to Boeing, the US aircraft maker.
Ukraine does not confirm attack
Ukraine said it did not rule out the possibility of a missile accident, but did not confirm the suspicion. The plane was leaving Tehran and heading towards Kiev when it was hit and crashed.
