If you want to change the direction of your life and take it in a direction you want, such as losing weight or starting your own business, you’re going to have to change your habits, it’s just how it works.
You’re at the point in your life right now because of your actions and because of your habits, so if you are unhappy it’s time to change those actions and habits. You can do that by being honest with yourself and others, have a strong overwhelming desire, and be a good example.
You might have heard that the first step towards making a change is admitting you have a problem, or admitting that things aren’t quite right yet.
Let’s say that for example you know that you should be using your time more wisely to build your own business, but instead you’re wasting time checking email, watching movies, and playing video games.
It’s very tempting to be proud of this and label yourself as a procrastinator or feel bad about it and label yourself as a victim or a martyr. But instead just admit that you are not where you want to be and that’s okay. You’re not in denial, you’re at the point where you need to change one simple thing today.
Maybe that means that you’re going to schedule the next time you’ll check your email, it might mean that you won’t play video games until a very important product is finished, and it’s also important to tell one other person about your intentions. I am not telling you to broadcast this, but tell a close trusted friend what you intend to do today so they can check in on you and you will be now held accountable.
The next thing that helps is to have a strong overwhelming desire to reach your goals, it’s not just enough to say that you want to make $10,000 this month, that’s a good piece of your goal but think about and decide what you’re going to do with that $10,000 – does that mean you’re going to wipe out your debt, go on a vacation, or retire early,
I know many people who were procrastinators until a big shift in their life happened, they had a medical problem, they had a new birth in the family, but they now had a real goal to hit, and many times this goal was not 100% about them, it was a goal such as giving a better life to their family, setting up a college fund for a relative, or just spending more time at home.
Many people are, for lack of a better term – asleep on the wheel of life. Asleep at the wheel when it comes to their life. So if you can have a good reason why that helps others and even better, demonstrates a good example for these people, you will create a lasting change in your life.
By being honest you can first realize there’s a problem, by having a strong overwhelming desire, you will have the motivation and emotional reasons to change, and when you’re a good example to others it reinforces that change and gives you the energy and the enthusiasm and the momentum to continue that change day in and day out.
