Scientists in China have developed an express test that can detect the new coronavirus 2019-nCoV in less than fifteen minutes, a breakthrough that we hope will help stem the tide of infection.
Experts at a technology company based in Wuxi, in eastern China's Jiangsu province, working with the National Institute for Viral Disease Control and Prevention, developed the rapid test kit in just ten days, according to the Xinhua news agency.

The test takes between eight and 15 minutes to produce a result and is currently being mass-produced at the rate of 4,000 kits per day, with the city government in Wuxi exploring efforts to further increase production.
The first batch of kits has already been deployed on the front lines at the outbreak's epicenter, Wuhan, in Hubei province.
The number of deaths from the virus continues to increase, as does the rate of infection worldwide. On Friday, the UK confirmed its first cases of the disease, bringing together more than 15 other countries around the world with verified cases of the disease.
To date, about 213 have died as a result of coronavirus infection and a further 9,700 have contracted the disease.
